30 Hour Famine

Friday - Saturday, February 22 - 23 | Free | At First MB | Junior High Students

Growing closer to Christ and each other as we fast together for 30 straight hours to raise funds and fight hunger.  Our Junior High Students have raised funds for the past 23 years and have become one of the highest fundraising Famine groups in the world.  The fast starts at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and the overnighter starts at 6:00 p.m. The event will consist of tribal games, service projects and will end with a dinner at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Parents are required to bring a pot luck dish and join us in the feast!

"Every day in 2013, more than 17,000 children under 5 died - most from preventable causes like hunger."

What is 30 Hour Famine?

Students collect funds from donors for January and February and then fast from eating any food (water is provided) for 30 hours together at the church.  At the actual event, there are team building activities ("Tribe Games") to teach the students what it's like to be hungry and what they can do to help fight hunger.  The night is a no-eat overnighter that is simply unforgettable.

1. Students LEARN the truth about global hunger and discover what God wants us all to do about it.
2. We RAISE FUNDS to fight hunger (that's where YOU come in).
3. We grow closer to God and each other as we FAST FOR 30 HOURS.
4. LIVES ARE CHANGED because of the money we've raised!

How Can I Support The Famine?

Starting in January until the end of February First MB's Junior High Students will go around to their family and friends to collect funds for the famine.  People can donate to a specific team member or to the whole group.  Your donation is tax-deductible.  You can donate online to the group or individual by clicking here.  Or visit the connect table to find out more information.

We will also have a special bake sale on Sunday mornings and other events that goes towards the famine.  The students would like to thank the congregation for supporting the bake sales and other events to raise donations for the famine.

Top 3 Reasons To Send In Your Famine Funds:

1. To save kid’s lives.

This is the beating heart of the Famine. The money you’ve raised might give a starving child a second chance through one of our emergency clinics. Teach a mom the right kind of food to give her toddler. Give a farmer better tools and seeds. Provide a water pump to irrigate fields. This list goes on . . . and you get to be the catalyst — by turning in your funds!

2. For the love of multiplication.

World Vision has been awarded a number of food grants that will multiply the impact of your funds, but they have end dates. Don’t miss out on making your efforts go further!

3. Like milk, checks go bad.

Banks won’t accept checks older than six months.Consider this is a weird piece of trivia you can dazzle your friends with. Either way, send in your funds as soon as possible to avoid this problem.
