Teaching Series

AXIS is our senior high ministry that meets on Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. Each week we have a talk about a Biblically based and relevant for teenagers.  We try to plan out a year in advance because that builds momentum.  We want both students and parents to know what we are talking about each night.  If you have any questions feel free to contact Pastor Kyle at students@firstmbchurch.org

AXIS (Senior High)

Embrace the Awkward

August 26 - September 9 (3 weeks)
Ever had someone walk up and start talking to you but you have no idea where you know them from? Awkward. While that situation may be uncomfortable, there is still a lot of good that can come out it. Such as it is in the Bible, lots of awkward situations, lots of opportunities to grow.

Sept. 2 will be Color Fest!
Sept. 9 will be a potluck meal!

The Hard Truths

September 23 - October 7 (3 weeks)
There are a lot of lies that we end up believing for various reasons and it affects everything we do. How we relate to others, how we do our work, how we connect with or disconnect from God. It's time to buckle down and look at some hard truths.

CRAVE: The Word of God

October 14 - November 11 (5 weeks)
We are using our own First MB Students' gift for writing to help us not only understand the Word of God better but want to know it better. To help us crave Scripture every day, to use in all areas of our lives.

You Got Served

December 2 - 16 (3 weeks)
Did you know that before you were born God not only picked out your eye color but your gifts? God knows what you are gifted in, do you? The Lord hasn't given us gifts and talents to keep them to ourselves but to bless and serve others.

Inside Out

January 6 - January 20 (3 weeks)
Have you woken up in the middle of the night with your mind racing, unable to sleep again? Have your hands tingled and gone numb while your body starts to shake with fears looming in your mind? God did not design for us to live like that because that's not life, that's something stopping us from living. Let's talk: mental health.

Will You Accept This Rose?

February 10 - February 24 (3 weeks)
If you were to pick the person you are most attracted to be your spouse would that equal happily ever after? Love is not a sport and surprise! neither is sex. Urgency, desperation, and curiosity should not be the reasons behind dating...and yet...

Guess Who?

March 3 - March 31 (3 weeks, with 2 weeks off for spring break)
A Guest Speaker is coming to talk with us about their ministry.

You Own The Night

April 14 - April 28 (3 weeks)
And now it's all in Your Hands!!! The whole night, the preparation, the games, it's ALL up to you and your classmates!

Junior High (for Sunday @11:00)

Junior high meets most Sundays from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the junior high room.   Each week we have a talk about a Biblically based and relevant for teenagers.  We try to plan out a whole school year in advance because that builds momentum.  We want both students and parents to know what we are talking about each week.  If you have any questions feel free to contact our junior high director Ryan Kelley at rkelley@firstmbchurch.org.

Sept. 2 - Sept. 23 (4 weeks)
Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to scream, “You’re not the boss of me!” (You can also raise your hand if you have, in fact, actually screamed it.) Especially when we’re teenagers, we tend to push back on the people, places, and things that control and hold authority over us. But here’s the catch: whether we admit it or not, we’ve all given someone (or something) control of our lives.

The Greatest Show

Sept. 30 - Oct. 21 (4 weeks)
Do you ever felt like you’re putting on a show? Like the person people think you are doesn’t line up with who you really are? Or maybe you’ve been known to put on different personas for different situations — personas that help you fit in with certain crowds, even if that persona doesn’t reflect who you really want to be. Sound familiar? Of course it does. We can all relate because, at times, we all struggle with the same big questions: “Who am I? Who loves me? Why am I here?”

After You

Oct. 28 - Nov. 18 (4 weeks)
In a culture obsessed with selfies, celebrities, money, and success, it’s not difficult to understand why so many of us struggle with being a little self-centered at times. But while “me first” may the norm for the rest of the world, Jesus showed us what it looks like to live a generous, compassionate, selfless, “after you” kind of life.

The Problem With Christmas

Nov. 25 - Dec. 16 (4 weeks)
Most people are pretty sure they know the story of Christmas. There’s a baby, and a manger, and some sheep, and Santa, and — well, it’s something like that. But there’s a problem with seeing the story of Jesus’ birth as just another story from the Bible. The story of Christmas isn’t just one of many stories in Scripture – it’s part of the story – the big story of God and His relationship with His creation.

Jan. 6 - Jan. 27 (4 weeks)
If you were granted three wishes, it would probably be pretty easy to come up with three things you wish you could change about your life or the world around you. Maybe that’s because we know the world isn’t always the way it should be – and neither are we.

Meant to Be

Feb. 3 - Feb. 24 (4 weeks)
“We’re meant to be.” It’s how all of our favorite movies, songs, and books talk about love—as if the secret to an amazing relationship is a little bit of destiny, a whole bunch of feelings, and a tiny dash of magic. So it makes sense, when we observe the not-so-perfect, real-life relationships modeled by our friends, parents, and favorite celebrities, that we might start to wonder, “Wait—is that how relationships are meant to be?”

Sincerely God

March 3 - 24 (4 weeks)
The Bible. We all know reading it is important (or at least that’s what we’ve been told), but if we’re being honest, we probably don’t give it the time or attention we know we should. Sometimes we avoid Scripture because it seems boring or irrelevant. Other times we avoid it because it’s too time-consuming, inconvenient, or maybe even convicting. So how do we change that?

Good Story

March 31 - April 7 (2 weeks)
For some of us, the Easter story is a little unclear. (It has something to do with Jesus dyeing Easter eggs with a rabbit, right?) For others, we’ve heard the Easter story, seen the Easter plays, and attended Easter services so many times that it has almost become white noise. In this Easter series, you’ll challenge students’ assumptions and attitudes about the Easter story as you help them see that the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection is more than just a story—it’s true! And it’s good news for the entire world.

Love Jesus ______.

April 14 - May 12 (4 weeks)
“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.” If you grew up going to church, it’s probably the first song about Jesus you can remember singing. “Jesus loves me” may seem like a pretty straightforward and foundational belief, but let’s be honest . . . singing about Jesus’ love is a lot easier than actually imitating it.
